What was Hannah doing in Ghana?
Hannah spent 4 weeks volunteering with Thrive Africa in April 2016, her first two weeks were spent on our Library Building Project located in Kumasi. Turning unused school space into vibrant learning environments filled with fictional and non-fiction books.
During the latter two weeks of Hannah’s trip she was working on our Caregiver Housing Project which supports caregivers of orphans and vulnerable children by building additional rooms to the caregivers home and making home improvements. In this are of Ghana it is typical that caregivers have to share one or two small rooms with the children they care for and the rooms are used for sleeping & cooking, with an additional room caregivers are able to separate sleeping and cooking spaces, providing a better environment for both the children and the caregiver and preventing health concerns regarding cooking with log/coal fires in sleeping areas.
On evenings and weekends volutneers take part in organised excursion trips to explore the amazing culture and sights of Ghana.
