VOLUNTEERING IN GHANA
Volunteering with Thrive Africa you’ll have the opportunity to work on several development projects and experience everything Ghana has to offer. Working 5 days a week you’ll gain an understanding of what the project is, why it exists and the outcomes it hopes to deliver.
Ghana boasts incredible tourist attractions and we want to make sure you get the chance to see everything you can. We help organise excursions and join you on them, time off is given on evenings and weekends.
Thrive Africa staff accompany you and your group from when you arrive at the airport until we drop you back off to ensure you are safe and have the best possible experience.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Please see Trip Dates to see which projects run on which trips.
EXPANDING SCHOOL RESOURCES
We turn unused classroom space into vibrant libraries in schools. Volunteers do everything from building the furniture, painting the room to putting the books on the shelf. We’ve built over 290 Libraries since 2010 and with our partners donated over 400,000 Books.
The Orphan Welfare Agenda is a partner charity that provides home based support to caregivers of orphans and vulnerable children. Volunteers will help build income generating farms for these caregivers.
IMPROVING LIVING CONDITIONS
Many of the 140+ caregivers that work with the Orphan Welfare Agenda live in inadequate housing. Many caregivers share one room with the children they care for, our project aims to expand and improve homes to provide a more suitable living environment. Volunteers will work with local trades people to build additional rooms for caregivers using traditional building methods.
PROVIDING ICT RESOURCES
Volunteers will be assisting a qualified teacher to teach ICT & help provide ICT equipment to schools, with the end goal of building ICT Labs within our partner schools.
ACCOMMODATION & FOOD
We have two dedicated volunteer houses, both located in quiet neighbourhoods, they’re safe, well situated, welcoming and are located close to amenities and playing fields.
You’ll find plenty of space for socialising with large living spaces, large dorm rooms and dining areas. We also have access to local swimming pools.
You’ll usually share a room with up to 5 other volunteers, there’s safe storage and the house has running water, electricity and shared internet. All volunteer accommodation is staffed 24/7.
Our kitchen staff will be providing you with 3 meals a day; both local and international dishes. There’s clean drinking water and fresh fruit always available.
Ghana is a fantastic place to explore, with large national parks, waterfalls, castles, rainforest walks, lakes, museums, markets, picturesque beaches and lots of cultural attractions.
Evenings can be spent taking in the local culture, music and food, while weekends can be spent walking over the rooftops of the rainforest, on an elephant safari or relaxing on the beach.
There’s certainly nothing boring about Ghana and to help you see and experience as much as possible we’re here to help, we provide an excursion package at cost price.
